Julie Marks started coming to Baja in the mid 1980s and fell in love with the place, the people and the lifestyle. Even then, when it was a tiny spec of a town, she knew it was special. So shortly after giving birth to her son, Christian, she and her husband moved from California to Los Barriles in 1998 to raise their family. Christian grew up here, one of the only little gringos in school and he now has his own home and runs a successful Los Barriles business.

East Cape Vacation Rentals was born the day after Julie and her family pulled into town; it has morphed and grown over the years as the industry has seen enormous change. Julie actually helped to locally establish the idea of renting your vacation home when not there, as a way of keeping the maintenance in check and off-setting your home owner costs. When local owners saw the huge benefits of such a service, East Cape Vacation Rentals really took off.

Julie is strong in body and mind, evident in the way she handles each day. Even after losing her husband to illness over a decade ago, she persevered and is a solo business owner, managing a thriving staff. To keep her life in balance, she keeps active through kiting, hiking, snorkeling, fishing and lots of yoga!

When asked what she loves most about her business life she replied, “I love the interactions with the guests. I meet such wonderful people! And I truly enjoy giving peace of mind to homeowners trusting me with the care of their home, as well as creating a comfortable and safe environment for our renters, whether they are first time visitors or seasoned Baja lovers.”
